Flick Law Firm opened its office in 1989 and since then has served the legal needs of Kansas City metropolitan area residents and people hundreds of miles away.
We focus almost exclusively on helping people hurt in truck, car, motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian accidents that are someone else’s fault. On an ongoing basis we look for innovative ways to provide you more personalized, responsive service and better results.
How Our Focus Benefits You
Some collision cases, like 18 wheeler accidents, can involve legal issues unique to them. However, many car accident and other vehicle collision cases present common and recurring factual, legal and medical issues. A few common scenarios like rear end and intersection collisions account for a high percentage of crashes. Certain injuries, for example neck and back injuries and broken bones, appear frequently in our cases. We have dealt repeatedly with many of the legal issues typical in car and other vehicle accident claims and major car insurance companies you may know from their TV commercials.
Dealing with these factual, medical and legal issues repeatedly has let us develop a depth of skill and experience with them. It also lets us focus on acquiring the resources and training to excel, with the goal of providing you the best representation and results. For the example, Lawrence Flick, our Senior Attorney and Litigation Director, has completed a number of national level, multiple day training programs on subjects like litigating truck accident cases, depositions (formal pretrial questioning of witnesses under oath), litigation and trial methodology and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Our federal court focus and technology advantage are two other examples.
Federal Court – Going the Extra Mile for You
You may have heard the old expression “Don’t make a federal case out of it.” It means don’t make a big deal out of it. Do you think insurance companies want your lawyer to make a big deal out of your car or other vehicle accident case? Probably not. Why? It’s obvious- so they can pay you less.
For the last 15 years Flick Law Firm has been “making a federal case out of it”. Federal court is limited to larger cases involving citizens of different states or cases involving a question of federal law, so many personal injury cases don’t qualify to be filed there.
Federal court procedures can be more complex and technically demanding than in state court. It’s not easier. In fact, it’s more work and requires additional knowledge and skill. Not surprisingly, personal injury lawyers often prefer to avoid federal court.
Since 1999 we have represented injured clients in Kansas and Missouri federal courts. We have recovered money for them through both jury trial and settlements. Why do we go to this extra work? Because our experience shows that for some cases, filing your case in federal court can produce better results than pursuing it in the state court system. Going the extra mile and having the know-how to successfully litigate cases in federal court reflects our commitment to high quality work and results for you.
You Benefit From Our Technology Advantage
Law is a traditional profession and often not at the cutting edge of technology. Early on, Flick Law Firm saw the potential of technology in law practice.
For 25 years we have worked to use technology to provide better service and results. Some examples are:
Sounds kind of boring doesn’t it? But it can be really important to your case.
Courts rely heavily on prior court decisions, statutes (laws) and procedure rules to determine how your case proceeds. In federal court this is especially important. These rules may change as new decisions are made, laws passed and procedure rules modified. Further, small changes in facts can significantly change the rules applicable to your case. You can easily see how essential researching these decisions, statutes and rules can be to the result you want.
Historically, lawyers did legal research in law libraries full of volumes of past court decisions and statutes. Some still do. The work can be painstaking and slow. To do higher quality research, more efficiently we acquired the capability for online research of federal and all 50 states court decisions and statues. This program also provides 24/7 research assistance by US based lawyers. Tremendous improvement in our legal research capability and efficiency has resulted.
Another exciting subject, right? Not so much, but it can be really important to success in your case.
Lawsuits can create paper storms of thousands and even millions of documents. Historically, lawyers organized them with a system of expanding file pockets and boxes. This system can be overwhelmed in big cases resulting in lost or misfiled documents.
More than ten years ago we identified this issue and sought solutions. Being unable to find software that fit our requirements, we built our own electronic file system. Our system can input paper documents, e-mails and data files, search for words and phrases, copy text or pictures, print and email documents. Files can be transferred from desktops to laptops for courtroom use. And these are just part of its capabilities.
We also have other cool technology. We know that insurance companies and probably their defense lawyers look at this site. Do you want us to tell them about all the tools we have to deal with their tactics and systems? Maybe not. So we don’t want to say too much. But know that we have more technology to provide you better results and service.
